Milwaukee is one of the most convenient cities to live in for travel. With our very own MKE airport being a hub for numerous national airlines and Chicago being just a bus-ride or short drive away, we have the ability to easily take off for a getaway without a significant amount of hassle.
Except, we’re moms. So most everything is at least a little bit of a hassle, am I right?
Last fall, I dealt with that little bit o’ hassle to make sure I could hop on a plane out of MKE to fly directly down to Dallas for our annual Sister Site Conference, a gathering of the site owners of other City Moms Blog Network sites from across the country where we learn from one another, receive valuable training, and have a whole lot of fun.
To say I was thrilled that our conference was in Dallas might have been an understatement. It’s such a cool city with so much to do for families, girlfriends on a getaway weekend, or maybe a couple’s mini-vacation for a little romance recharge. With direct flights from MKE to DAL every day (shout-out to Southwest who got me there for CHEAP), it’s super-easy for moms from MKE to head to the Big D. And the next time you’re in town, I have a new hotel that I would highly recommend you add to your list when planning a short getaway. The Omni Hotel Resort.
The hotel itself is huge and the location is hard to beat. Set in the heart of downtown Dallas, we had several members of our group take a short walk from the hotel to Dealey Plaza to stand in the footsteps of history. There are shops to visit, a beautiful view of the city, fancy couches and fireplaces and a feel of comfort everywhere you look. Since I was in store for three full days without my kids, I was pretty excited to get checked into my room and rest after the flight in the beautiful, beautiful silence.
The room was absolutely beautiful….as soon as I was able to get in it. Total honesty here — my key didn’t work the first time I tried it. I was on the 20th floor and a looonnnnng way from the elevator, but my luggage and I hoofed it all the way back down to the main desk to get some new keys. Stuff like this just happens. What matters is how it is handled. And I can’t say enough about how efficiently and kindly the staff at the Omni Dallas dealt with the situation. Armed with two new keys and a helpful bellhop to schlep my luggage this time around, I got into my room and immediately fell back on the bed.
And took a nap. Yup. Right there. Just like that.
Sure, there were other cool things — a stunning view of the Dallas skyline, a TV hidden in the mirror of the bathroom, a fun spread of treats sent on behalf of the Omni Dallas staff — but that nap was GOLD. And that bed made it easy.
But there was work to be done! After that short recharge, I headed out to the beautiful patio area outside one of the Omni Dallas restaurants for a meet & greet with the other site owners. With perfect weather, a spread of appetizers and beverages to enjoy, and a fireplace for ambiance, it was a wonderful way to kickoff the weekend. I must admit, I think we Milwaukeeans can teach these Texans a thing or two about beer.
In addition to the conference spaces where we spent the majority of our time, there was a luxurious spa, pools, a fitness center, a sports bar, a coffee shop, other shopping locations, and more, all right there in the hotel. I even found out that they specifically cater to kids when they stay! Perfect for families!
On our last day of the conference, I set up camp down in the sports bar on the first floor of the Omni Dallas, since my flight wasn’t until later in the day. I enjoyed some time to work hard and sip a Texas amber lager while watching the Packer play on a screen the staff flipped to the game just for me. What more could a Wisconsin girl ask for?
The Omni Dallas was the PERFECT place for a conference, but this is definitely on my list of must-stays if I come back to Dallas!
We also had a ladies night out to remember when we met Sarah, the heart behind Neighbors Table. Sarah’s mission is to bring families, friends, and communities together — one table at a time. They don’t just build outdoor handcrafted tables, they are on mission of love to serve and be connected.
Since I had such a great stay at the Omni Dallas, I am excited to give you a chance to win a stay there too!
