Fun Halloween Costumes for Expecting Moms

Halloween Costumes pregnant

I love, love, love Halloween! It is probably my favorite holiday. Picking a fun costume, the cooler weather, pumpkin season, I love it all! When I found out I was expecting my second kiddo, and would be about eight months pregnant when Halloween rolled around, I could barely contain my excitement and I’ve been researching ideas ever since. Time to use that belly to my advantage!

I’m not a huge fan of the bloody baby hands sticking out of my stomach or skeleton fetus on a t-shirt. It’s not really my style, not to mention, it’s been done before. I was looking for something fun and unique that would put my big bump to good use. I also didn’t want it to break the bank. After spending way too much time on Pinterest, here are some of my favorites.

Kool-Aid Man

Oh yeah! How perfect is this costume? It’s so fun and definitely recognizable. I think it would be super easy and inexpensive to recreate at home, too. Homemade costumes always, always turn out better than store-bought ones. Plus, how fun will it be to hear everyone yelling “Oh yeah!” at you while you’re out trick-or-treating!

Kangaroo with pouch

This next one is just way too cute: a kangaroo with a baby in her pouch. If your bump won’t be quite Kool-Aid-man sized by the time Halloween rolls around, this costume would be perfect. Your significant other could dress up as a hunter on the Australian outback. You could put older kiddos in a koala outfit. The possibilities are endless!

Bubblegum Machine

Speaking of adorable costumes, this one is also pretty sweet. (Pun totally intended.) I love how this costume really is completely dependent on that bump. Without it, you would have a pretty sad gum ball machine. I also think this costume would be super easy to make. Basically, all you need is a white shirt to hot glue pom-poms to, throw in a red skirt and some grey felt for the money dispenser, and you’re good to go!

Avocado

This avocado costume just makes me smile. I think it requires a bit more artistic creativity than what I have. But, if you’re a good painter and have a large piece of cardboard, this would be really easy to make.

Juno (and Paulie Bleeker)

Saving the best for last: Juno! This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s so hilarious, while definitely tugging at those heart strings. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it immediately! This costume may not be as recognizable as a gum ball machine, per se, but I think those who get it will really appreciate it. My husband and I plan on recreating it this Halloween. I was able to find everything for my Juno costume at Goodwill or in my closet, and I found all of Paulie Bleaker’s costume at a sporting goods store for under $20. I’m still on the hunt for an old pipe or a hamburger phone.

As great as being pregnant is, there’s no definitely no denying that the third-trimester belly can tend to just get in the way. Finding the perfect maternity Halloween costume will make you appreciate that huge stomach for once. I hope these pregnant costume ideas got those wheels turning! How have you played up that bump for your Halloween costume?
