2015 :: A Year in Review

2015mkemb

To say that 2015 was a big year for MKE Moms Blog would be an understatement! The dream for this site was hatched in June when our co-founder, Sarah, read a post a friend had shared on Facebook from a site called Madison Moms Blog. After seeing the site and what a great resource it was for the moms of Madison, she started to look for a site in Milwaukee, originally intending to apply to be a contributing writer. When she discovered there wasn’t a site in Milwaukee yet, she got a crazy idea in her head….”Why not start one?”

A couple months later, MKE Moms Blog was born. We launched on September 21, 2015 with a diverse team of 14 contributing writers, assembled via an open call to the moms of the Milwaukee area. We have lifetime Milwaukee residents and recent transplants. Single moms, moms who have been married for decades, stepmoms. Moms of newborns and moms of teenagers. Working moms, stay-at-home moms. Moms who have experienced loss, moms with physical disabilities, foster moms.

Nobody’s motherhood experience looks the same as someone else’s so we are incredibly grateful to have such a dynamic group of writers to bring their personal stories of motherhood to the table.

In the three shorts months since MKE Moms Blog launched, we have grown to be an online community of over 3,200 and created 6 Neighborhood Groups on Facebook for our readers. The groups are intended for moms to be able to create connections with the other women right in their own backyard — to ask for recommendations and advice, build friendships, meet for coffee or hang out at the park. Our online calendar is updated frequently and readers from the community can easily submit events to share with our community.

We held four events in 2015, including a Mom & Me art event, two Moms Night Out events, and one national event at Costco! We are already working on our 2016 event schedule and we will have some fantastic opportunities coming up for you in the new year! In 2015, our holiday event raised money for Exploit No More and we are thrilled to announce that our first major family event in March — the 1st Annual Family Egg Hunt — will be a food drive and raise money for Hunger Task Force! If there is a charity near and dear to you, let us know and we will see if we can find a way to connect in 2016. We are already considering several options for a service event this coming summer and we would love for you to be a part of it!

We wold LOVE to meet you and get to know you!

    I love what your #2 most viewed post was!! It says great things about our city. Thank you again for mentioning us in that post. We received lots of requests for more information from families wanting to volunteer with their kiddos (how awesome is that?!?). Best wishes for 2016!
