Our Costco membership was the thing we never knew we had been missing. Once we were introduced to the incredible selection of products we love at amazing prices, plus the free samples, cheap lunch for the kids and additional savings opportunities, we quickly became a Costco Family for life.

Why Costco is Perfect for Moms

Life is busy. The more one-stop shopping we can do, the better. Especially if the kids are in tow! One way we’ve learned is helpful in cutting down our time shopping is to buy in bulk at Costco. We have a family of five, including three young sons who are already eating an incredible amount of food and growing out of socks at an incredible pace. Buying products in bulk is a huge time-saver as well as a cost-saver for us in the long run. Costco has the quality products we are looking for at fantastic prices, all in one place. Plus, the double-carts mean you can pop two little kiddos in the seat to keep ’em buckled in place and lunch is basically taken care of just by walking around the store and enjoying free samples followed by a $1.50 hot dog at the end as a reward for not losing it!

Our Favorite Products to Buy at Costco

It’s actually tough to narrow this list down because there are so many fantastic finds in the aisles of Costco. The Kirkland Signature brand is private-label brand that only Costco carries and you’ll find it on about 20% of the products in your local warehouse, on everything from men’s dress shirts to laundry detergent, pet food to toilet paper, canned foods to cookware, automotive products to health and beauty aids. These are our top choices that make it into our cart nearly every time we are there.

img_1844Baby Wipes and Diapers :: Full disclosure – we are past the diaper stage in our house. BUT. These wipes are still found stashed in nooks and crannies of our house, our van, etc. These wipes are soft and stay fresh for a long, long time. And the word on the street is that even the most particular of diaper snobs will like the quality and cost-effectiveness of the Kirkland brand diapers.

Poultry and Meat :: This is one the areas that really sold us on our Costco membership. The organic, grass-fed ground beef is one of our favorite products at Costco that absolutely blows our local grocery store out of the water in terms of price per pound. And the boneless, skinless chicken breasts are not only a great price, but we love how they are packaged in individual pouches so you don’t have to thaw out a huge bag that now contains a frozen chicken iceberg hunk. Pork chops, tenderloin, seafood, sausage….the list goes on and on. The highest quality meat we have very found at price you can’t beat. Plus, the rotisserie chickens are a whopping 3 pounds and cost less than $5! Dinner made easy, mama.

Milk and Eggs :: Unless we are in some sort of emergency situation, Costco is the only place we will buy milk and eggs. Our favorite is the 2-dozen pack of organic eggs because we go through them like crazy in our house!

Organic Produce :: This is the only place we have ever found we can actually purchase organic fruits and vegetables at a price we can handle. Sometimes I stock up on fresh berries and other times we grab bags of frozen fruit for smoothies!

img_1888Wine :: I sent my husband to Costco once to get a few things we needed and he came home without wine. I shouted, “Where’s the wine?” He replied, “Wine wasn’t on the list” to which I quickly retorted, “Wine is ALWAYS on the list.” Try the Kirkland Signature wines for the perfect combo of quality and value — the Malbec is my personal fave and the Prosecco makes the perfect mimosa. The wine selection is amazing and they have really fantastic wine at a price that will shock even the most distinguished sommelier. On a recent visit to my local warehouse, I even found a Joel Gott Cabernet that was served at a restaurant I recently worked at for $50 a bottle. The Costco price? $12.99. Wine is ALWAYS on the list, friends.

Snack Foods :: Applesauce packs, popcorn, crackers, nuts, fruit snacks — If you are looking for kid-friendly snacks on the go, all of these are the Kirkland Signature brand snacks are huge hits with my kids. We all know how kids are with snacks. We fly through them quickly so it’s crucial they are affordable!

Gas :: I will push my tank to brink of empty if it means I can wait to fill up until my Costco trip. Why? Because they use only top tier gasoline that is consistently at least several cents cheaper per gallon than local gas stations. After the van is loaded down with our Kirkland haul, we always finish our trip by filling up the tank!

Coconut Oil :: Okay, to be fair, I don’t have to buy this every time I go because the jug of oil you get is MASSIVE. We use coconut oil for cooking, bath products, hair products, adding to our smoothies for a healthy fat, and more. This is the best place to buy coconut oil, hands down.

img_1872Maple Syrup :: Our kids eat a ton of pancakes — Saturdays are “fresh pancake day” — and I also like to try to use maple syrup as a sweetener in recipes instead of sugar. This is 100% organic, pure maple syrup and you get a huge jug of it for under $11. It’s ridiculous.

Paper Products :: Toilet paper, paper towel, napkins, etc. Did I mention that we have three boys in this house? Running out of toilet paper would be like moving to DEFCON 5 and we cannot let that happen. Buying this stuff in bulk is crucial.

Laundry Detergent :: The Kirkland brand has numerous options depending on your needs and Costco’s Kirkland brand is top-rated when compared to the other leading brands you see at other stores. The laundry detergent often will be on sale for $3 or $4 off from time to time, so that’s the time to stock up!

Coffee :: Fair trade certified and roasted by the same folks who roast the coffee for Starbucks. When I said Costco is perfect for moms, I meant it. (See also: Wine)

We could go on and on. Movie tickets, strawberry jam, olive oil, dog food, Angelic Bakehouse bread, bacon, almond milk, juice boxes, cheese, take and bake pizza, spices, Greek yogurt, almond butter, garbage bags, dryer sheets, dried fruit, marinara sauce, socks, batteries, construction paper, gifts, and so much more. It’s just wonderful to wander the aisles and find a new favorite every time we visit!
