When I was about 38 weeks pregnant with my first child, I thought there must be no possible way I could get any bigger. My ankles were swollen, my rings no longer fit, there were at least three chins happening at all times and my belly has grown so huge that just turning over in bed was seven-step process. By the time that baby finally came out, I didn’t even recognize myself anymore and I swore I wouldn’t let it get this out of control again.
As it turns out, I didn’t have much control over what my body was going to do or not do while there was another human growing inside it. Two more babies. Two more enormous bellies, two more sets of swollen ankles, stretch marks on stretch marks.
Three beautiful babies.
Three sons who have grown inside mine, who have changed everything about me. Not just how I look, but who I am. I absolutely love being their mother. They are awesome kids and though they drive me absolutely batty most of the time, there are times when I am struck so hard with how much I love them that I can hardly breathe.
But I miss me.
I know I can’t be the only one who has been left feeling a bit empty after those babies have vacated their space in the womb and started to grow up. We look in the mirror and we hardly recognize the woman looking back at us. The covers of the magazines tell us to get on Whole30 and hit the gym while the blogs we read tell us to love our Mom Bod and celebrate our stretch marks. It’s infuriating.
Well, neither one of those worked for me.
I’m fine with eating sensibly and moderate exercise, but there was no way I was going to go to extremes because I had tried that before and it really didn’t go well. And there was also no way I could continue to try to cram my muffin top into my jeans and pretend it didn’t bother me.
Enter CoolSculpting at Quintessa Aesthetic Center
When I first heard about a non-invasive procedure that actually freezes and kills fat, I honestly thought there was no way something like that could actually work. And never even mind the fact that I was afraid what people would think if they found out I “had work done.” Would people judge me? Think I was conceited or stuck-up? My initial conversations with the staff at Quintessa Aesthetic Center in Mequon quickly put those fears to rest because at the forefront of the consultation was the mission behind everything Quintessa does — to enhance the outer beauty so it matches the inner beauty within and restores a woman’s confidence.
It’s not about changing your body to make it the one you’ve always wanted. It’s about investing in the body you have so your confidence outside matches your fabulousness inside.
After my consultation with Katelyn, the Non-Surgical Body Coordinator, I was amazed at the kind of results CoolSculpting could bring about and I was really excited to see what Katelyn would recommend for me! Today I am going to share with you some of the highlights and FAQs about CoolSculpting as well as some of my personal experiences during the treatment and I hope you will join us again in a few weeks when I reveal the Before and After results!
What is Coolsculpting?
The simple answer — CoolSculpting is a procedure that freezes and permanently removes stubborn fat. CoolSculpting selectively freezes fat cells in targeted areas of the body. Frozen fat cells die, and are gradually eliminated by the body’s lymphatic system. The result is a steady reduction in the thickness of the body’s fat layer. Each cycle permanently removes 20-25% of the fat layer. This leaves you looking slimmer and more toned.
What is the procedure like?
I did a live video from my very first CoolSculpting treatment at Quintessa Aesthetic Center and I would encourage you to check it out below. Not only do you get to see what it’s like, but we did a lot of Q&A with Katelyn as well.
Basically, Katelyn draws on your skin exactly where she wants those applicators to go and then she applies a slippery gel pad to that area to keep the applicator from coming directly into contact with your skin. Then the applicator is applied, the cooling is kicked on and you sit back and relax while the fat is frozen to death!
Does it hurt?
Nobody likes to experience pain. And we often think that procedures like this must be painful. But, in my experience, CoolScultping was not painful. It was uncomfortable at times, yes. For example, after the applicator is removed you are left with a pretty red, cold and numb area of skin that is immediately massages and pummelled a bit, like a uterus after childbirth. That part is not fun, but it’s important because it helps the blood get flowing again and wake your cells back up. I also experienced some tenderness and soreness in the days following my treatment, but that was easily treated with a mild pain reliever.
This is me getting REALLY VULNERABLE with you, okay friend? This is not the kind of photo most people will just put out on the interwebs of themselves. But, I want you to have a sense of what to expect! This is a photo of my stomach immediately after the applicator was removed. You can see the applicator on my thigh is still strapped on and pluggin’ away.
Who is a good candidate for CoolSculpting?
Hear me well, friends. This is not a magic Skinny Stick that you wave over your body and suddenly you look like a runway model. CoolSculpting is for folks who are within 30 pounds of their ideal weight and have areas of unwanted bulges or stubborn fat that don’t want to budge such as thighs, stomach (what I like to call my “Mom Pooch”), love handles, arms. CoolSculpting is not a solution for weight loss nor does it remove very loose, excess skin or major areas of fat.
Does it work?
Obviously, this is the question I get most often! I will be going back to Quintessa Aesthetic Center later next month to take my official “After” photos, which I will share with you later this summer. Since it takes several weeks for the fat cells to cycle out of your body, results from CoolSculpting don’t really achieve their full effect until quite some time after treatment! But I am happy to share with you the progress I have seen so far.
ONE MONTH PROGRESS (1st Treatment) – One month after my first treatment, I put on this dress and was able to really see a difference! It fit so much smoother. I didn’t have the bulging that usually made me feel so self-conscious and I noticed there was a much more pronounced curve to my waist. There was also a disctinctive difference in my outer thighs. The bulge I was so used to seeing sticking out below my hips was wayyyyy smaller.
ONE MONTH PROGRESS (2nd Treatment) – As mentioned earlier, each treatment kills 20 – 25% of the fat cells in the targeted area. So, when I went in for my 2nd treatment about 8 weeks after my first, I already had less fat to deal with. One month after that second treatment, I put on this same dress and was so surprised at how LOOSE it now looked! It’s hard to even see in the photo what kind of progress was made because the dress didn’t fit as snugly as it once did. But I definitely could see a huge difference in my “pooch” area and one thing you can’t see in the photo is my thighs. The inner thighs I had treated have changed so much!
For those of you playing along at home, here is the progress so far from the start ::
