Healthcare is a personal choice and each person and family has the ability to choose what is right for them.
I’m excited to introduce you all to our family’s new friend, Sara of Chiroway of Brookfield. For many, chiropractic care is one of those things we hear a lot about, but really don’t fully understand. At least, that’s the way it was for our family. I’ve had plenty of friends who have sworn by their chiropractic care for everything from relief of back pain and headaches to mental clarity and stress management. But as for me and my family, I just didn’t get it….until I met Sara Guse, DC and she explained chiropractic care in a way that made sense to me and I knew I had to try it. Basically, she told me that chiropractic care helps re-establish connections in your nervous system when they are struggling to communicate. That made perfect sense to my social media/writing brain!
I brought my 4-year-old sidekick to ChiroWay to find out more from Sara about the basics of chiropractic care and to get adjusted for the first time in my life. Sara took fantastic care of both me AND my son and I got to learn even more about the benefits of chiropractic care for families.
What is chiropractic care really about?
Chiropractic care is about removing vertebral subluxations and allowing your body to function, perform, coordinate, and thrive at 100% of its full potential. A subluxation is a misalignment of your spine, but what’s even worse is that it creates an interference between your brain and body and the way they communicate to each other through our nerve system, which then causes a lack of function in the whole entire body. This is much like when there is a kink in a water hose and the water can’t flow at full force. And guess what — you get subluxations every single day by encountering all different kinds of stressors, good and bad!
Why should my family get adjusted if we aren’t experiencing pain or other symptoms?
Regular chiropractic care is about so much more than feeling good or feeling bad, it’s about improving how you heal, metabolize, balance, and perform on a cellular level and elevating the quality of your everyday life. Kids of all ages encounter just as many stressors as adults do, it’s just that their stress is mostly emotional and physical from falling, tumbling, wrestling, and jumping.
Even if you don’t have pain, symptoms, or other conditions, getting adjusted is always a good thing; it is always beneficial. Every chiropractic adjustment helps to restore function to your body, helps you live easier with the stress you encounter every day, and keeps you moving towards the best you possible!
What is that cracking/popping noise?
When getting your spine adjusted by a chiropractor, you may hear a noise that resembles a pop or crack, but rest assured, nothing is popping or cracking inside of your body! What’s happening is simply gas being released from between a joint, or two bones, in your spine. The noise is not always indicative of a successful adjustment either. You’ll notice hearing that noise when you’re merely turning, bending or stretching, and again it’s just your body adapting to the movements you’re doing. Only a chiropractor will be able to tell you when a successful and specific chiropractic adjustment has been made and your subluxations are cleared.
Author’s Note :: The “popping” sound was my 4-year-old’s favorite part of getting adjusted by Sara. She would make him giggle and tell him to “follow her nose” with his head before his adjustment and then “get the popcorns out!” Sara made it like a game for him and he had so much fun!
Is it safe for infants, toddlers and adolescents to get adjusted? What about pregnant mamas?
Chiropractic care is not only safe for infants and children of all ages, it’s very beneficial in helping them grow to be stronger, more balanced and coordinated so they can live to their highest potential. It’s never too early to start getting adjusted either! In fact, for babies, pregnancy is the optimal time to be under regular chiropractic care because now baby is dependent upon everything Mom provides for its overall wellbeing and development. Getting regular adjustments is always beneficial for Mom during the pregnancy and delivery, but it will also allow baby receive all of the necessary nutrients while growing, too. Just like any profession, there are good and bad chiropractors, so make sure your children are seeing a chiropractor that is giving the best care possible and only adjusting with minimal pressure.
