We were so honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to gather approximately 75 Milwaukee area moms last weekend in honor of motherhood. In partnership with Authentic Birth Center and Wellness Collective, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and Dr. Smith’s, we welcomed dozens of mothers and moms-to-be to Bloom, an event designed specifically for new and expectant moms in Milwaukee.
The Venue :: Authentic Birth Center and Wellness Collective
Authentic Birth Center is the kind of place where you walk in and immediately feel at home. Not only do they offer a fantastic option for natural childbirth, they also have chiropractic care, support groups, playdates, music therapy, and so much more. When the ladies of Authentic threw open their doors for the moms of Milwaukee last weekend, every single one felt welcomed and appreciated. The guided tour of Authentic’s glorious birth suites was one of the highlights of Bloom!
The Food :: Jason’s Deli, Honeypie Cafe and Angelic Bakehouse
Our guests were treated to goodies from three absolutely gems of the Milwaukee area that families are sure to love! Jason’s Deli brought party pinwheels and a huge fruit and cheese tray that would be perfect for any party, including a baby shower! They are located in Brookfield Square and the menu is focused on providing family-friendly, non-GMO ingredients you can be confident in serving. Plus, they even deliver with a minimum catering order!
Honeypie Cafe is famous for their homemade pies and not only did our guests get to enjoy sampling them (the Key Lime was AMAZING), but each swag bag got a postcard about their Pie-Gram service, a pie delivery service to treat someone in your life, perfect for birthdays, Mother’s Day, or to congratulate a new mama!
Since Bloom was all about celebrating “little sprouts,” it made perfect sense to feature Angelic Bakehouse, a Milwaukee-based company that specializes in creating products with sprouted grains. Our moms loved the homemade pita chips that we being made on site that smelled glorious, the apple wraps made with the wraps that everyone got in their swag bags, and of course their famous 7-grain bread. You’ll find Angelic products all over the Milwaukee area and we loved having them at Bloom!
In addition to being able to enjoy some really delicious food, our Bloom guests were able to meet lots of amazing local businesses from right here in Milwaukee that love new moms. Our guests got to learn about self-care from Fit4Mom – Brookfield, Mary Saunders of L’Bri and Jen Kessler as they explored fitness options for during and after pregnancy, learned how to care for their skin, and discovered some quick makeup techniques for when time (and sleep!) are limited. (Bonus: Jen Kessler is a makeup artist who would love to help you look your best for your next event, photo shoot, etc!)
Also interested in caring for our mamas, Authentic Birth Center was sharing more details about their birthing options and other service, including post-partum care and placenta encapsulation. They even had some breakout yoga circles many moms enjoyed! Nourishing Wellness was excited to talk to moms about nutrition and what they can be doing to give their body all the love it deserves through good food and optimum wellness. Baby Jack Co. was on hand displaying their line of loveys, tag blankets made right here in Milwaukee that were born out of a desire to comfort babies safely. Kelley’s passion for her loveys really shined!
Before that baby comes, you’ll want to register for everything you’ll need, so we loved having Babies R Us on hand to talk about baby registries and handing out goodie bags to all our moms. Sara of Freckledfox Photography was enjoying talking to moms about her breastfeeding and birth photography! MkeMB has worked with Freckledfox from the beginning and we highly recommend her for capturing those once in a lifetime moments like when your baby enters this world! And of course, once that baby is finally here, you’re going to need a break! Whether it’s going out on a date night or going back to work, you’re going to want childcare you can trust. That’s where Olive You Nanny comes in! Olive You Nanny was so excited to talk to moms about how their unique nanny agency that is devoted to finding you the perfect person to help care for your child. Christina Manning of Usborne Books got to show off all the beautiful, flap-filled books that make learning about reading fun for kids of all ages! We love how much fun these books are!
The highlight of our afternoon was the panel of experts who were on hand to answer some of the burning questions our mamas came in with. Everything from birth techniques to breastfeeding, sleeping to pooping, and even placenta encapsulation were covered. Thank you so much to Dr. Denise Dunlap, pediatrician with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, who was happy to answer questions about infant care and pediatrics. We were also thrilled to welcome the founders of Mom’s Mental Health Initiative who fielded numerous questions about mental heath during and after pregnancy. (Bonus :: Did you see that the sales of our LoveMKE shirt for the month of May will go to benefit MMHI?! Get yours here!) In addition, Authentic Birth Center had their founder/midwife as well as chiropractor on the panel and we also had a certified lactation consultant. Such great questions were asked and answered by all these amazing women!
As if getting out of the house to hang out with other Milwaukee area moms wasn’t enough, all Bloom guests had the opportunity to enter to win some amazing giveaways. We are so thankful to ::
And you know what was really cool? Since Bloom was a national event that was taking place at more than 30 sites across the country, there was a national giveaway on the line for those who shared to Instagram using the #CMBNbloom16 hashtag and guess what??!! One of our Milwaukee mamas won! Congrats to Molly who won the Ultimate Baby Registry from City Moms Blog Network, worth over $2400!!
Not only did Milwaukee area moms have a chance to win some incredible giveaways, but they all walked away with a swag bag STUFFED to the brim thanks to our amazing swag partners. Every mom left with something from ::
We also want to thank Beth Rousseau, Music Therapist, for providing music during the event as well as Safe Babies Healthy Families for being a part of Bloom and allowing us to help support their mission. Check out all the diapers our guests brought for the diaper drive!
And of course, none of this would have been possible without the fantastic MKE Moms Blog team who worked so hard to make this event a success. This group of women is so passionate about creating welcoming environments for moms and we love them so much!
A huge thank you is due to Vanessa Wyler Photography for capturing the fun of the afternoon. We look forward to seeing lots of Milwaukee moms at more MKE Moms Blog events in the future!
