When our sights are set on fall, we all start to crave the flavors of the season, including pumpkin and of course, all things APPLE! Going apple picking can be a wonderful family activity that is both affordable and fun, plus many area orchards offer additional features like fresh apple donuts, playgrounds, and more! These are our favorite Apple Orchards in the Milwaukee Area!
Guide to Milwaukee Apple Orchards
Barthel Fruit Farm – Mequon
Dates: Pick your own apples begins in Late August and continues until sold out. Call 262-242-2737 for picking hours before you head there.
Cost: Varies. After you pick and load your apples into your car, exit the farm through the handy “drive-thru” window, where your produce will be weighed and priced.
Description: One of my family’s favorites places to pick our own fruit! It’s pretty laid-back, and the fruit never disappoints. The farm offers both pre-picked and pick-your-own apples; varieties include McIntosh, Honeycrisp, and Red and Golden Delicious.
Elegant Farmer – Mukwonago
Dates: Autumn Harvest Festival runs from September 8th – October 21st, Saturdays & Sundays Only.
Description: Elegant Farmer features 12 varieties of apples for picking, and its “Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag” is so good, it beat Bobby Flay’s fried creation on a previous episode of Throwdown. Look for this famous treat and sample other yummy homemade specialties after you pick your own fruit fresh from the orchard.
Nieman Orchards – Cedarburg
Dates: September and October; call 262-377-4284 for hours and availability.
Cost: Varies. Cash or Check accepted.
Description: Nine generations of the Nieman family have lived and worked at this historic farm. Several apple varieties are available for picking, and wagon rides to the orchard are offered on weekends. Nieman’s also makes its own fresh-pressed apple cider.
Peck & Bushel Organic Fruit Company – Colgate
Dates: The 2018 apple picking season opened August 18th and runs through early October. Weekends only; open from 10 am – 4 pm. Call 414-418-0336 for details.
Cost: $28 per one-peck bag (about 10 pounds of fruit).
Description: Established in 2010, Peck & Bushel now offers more than 17 organic apple varieties throughout the growing season. You can also find fresh-pressed cider, caramel apples, and other treats at the apple barn.
Basse Country Delight – Muskego
Dates: Open Tuesday – Friday from 8 am – 6 pm; Saturday and Sunday from 8 am – 4 pm. Call 414-422-0315 for picking availability.
Description: Pick your own apples including Honey Crisp and other varieties, feed the goats and chickens, and enjoy famous homemade apple cider donuts! The farm also sells seasonal decorations, handcrafted items, honey, maple syrup, jelly and jam.
Apple Holler – Sturtevant
Dates: Apple picking is available daily beginning in August and ending in early November, 9 am – 3:30 pm. Call 262-884-7100 for the most current details.
Cost: $15 per person for a 1/4 Peck Bag (3-4 lbs.), $20 per person for a 1/2 Peck Bag (5-7 lbs.), $30 per person for a 1 Peck bag (10-12lbs), $45 per person for 1/2 Bushel (22-25lbs), or $75 per person for 1 Bushel (45-50lbs) Each person entering the orchard must pay for apple picking and will receive a bag with the exception of children 2 and under. Farm Park Admission, Tractor Drawn Orchard Tour, and Free tasting of apples while in orchard is included FREE with your apple picking package.
Description: There’s plenty to keep everyone busy, from pick your own apples, to the petting zoo, country store, corn maze, pony rides, and ginormous wooden cutouts of apples with an opening for your kid’s face. Autumnal Heaven, right here. Be warned — it’s easy to spend a LOT of money here. Between parking, apples, activities and everything else….it adds up quick.

Rim’s Edge Orchard – Germantown
Dates: 2018 Season Opener is August 24th. Pick Your Own is available Thurs through Sunday, September through October (please check website for exact end dates). Store is open 10am-6pm daily.
Description: Rim’s Edge Orchard offers 20+ varieties of apples with many option for pick your own. If you are in a hurry, they also have pre-picked bags available in their store along with local honey, WI maple syrup, delicious caramel apples, apple cider, as well as apple cider donuts!
