At the beginning of another long, cold Milwaukee winter it is easy to wonder how are we going to keep the kiddos busy. Without access to swing sets, sandy beaches, or bike rides outside, the days can get REALLY long for moms and babes.
Well, worry no longer. Little Sprouts Play Café is just the solution for you!
Little Sprouts Play Café is a play space in Shorewood that features toys and structures meant to inspire your child’s imagination. Through dress-up, art, music, and toys, this space will give your little ones plenty of ways to keep their bodies and minds busy while you catch up with a friend over free Stone Creek coffee or knock out a few emails and enjoy a pastry.
Every day of the week Little Sprouts is open for your zero- to six-year-old tikes to enjoy open play or scheduled activities such as story time, open art or open music. Simply take off your coat and shoes (everyone needs to have socks on please!), and kids can run between the many play stations.
Children from one- to six-years-old gain entry with a $8.50 fee. Children under 1 are free and there is a “trample free” space set aside with age appropriate toys for non-walkers. With the entrance fee, kids are welcome to come and go during the day. A ten-pass pack is available as are monthly and yearly memberships. The year-long membership comes with a ton of benefits! In addition to discounts on food and educational opportunities, you also get a ten pack of passes to bring friends or family members along. Finally, something to do with all the visiting cousins during the holidays!
If this sounds like the perfect place to hold your little one’s birthday party, you are correct! For a small fee, you can take over the party room or the whole place, have the party, and let someone else do the cleanup. Private events only take place after hours. It’s also great place for baby showers or family reunions. Playgroups are welcome to reserve the party room during business hours and enjoy a discounted price of $6/child. Please call Little Sprouts at least three weeks before your desired event date to reserve the space.
Eight week sessions of kids’ classes kick off in January. Check out their schedule for arts, music, Spanish and yoga. Also watch their calendar for one-time, kid-friendly workshops related to nature and other fun topics. Additionally, there will be special events open to the public for whole families to enjoy holidays like Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.
Owner and local mom Adrienne Shea wants Little Sprouts Play Café to support the whole family, not just the child. To that end, she has invited professional family counselors to host parental education workshops and a special playgroup for children with sensory-related special needs. Additionally, Adrienne has made a point to partner with fellow “parent professionals” to provide services in the space. Story time hosts own book businesses. Subject area savvy and kid friendly instructors teach the classes.
My daughters came with me when I interviewed Adrienne for this story. My six month old was all smiles the whole time and my almost three-year-old had a breakdown when it was time to leave. If that’s not a toddler version of two thumbs up, I don’t know what is.
