Spring is finally here without question and we are so excited to celebrate the return of sunshine and flowers and to get outside for good! There are some great happenings around the Milwaukee area this month that you will want to check out!

May 1st – Story Time at Discovery World :: Gather the little ones for engaging adventures into some of the best children’s books by some very talented, local storytellers and readers. Each month will have a STEM-focused theme that is age-appropriate for 2-5 year-olds. Each child will also receive a take-home craft compliments of our Kohl’s Design It! Lab.
May 1st – First Tuesdays – Free Entry to Milwaukee County residents to Boerner Botanical Gardens :: First Tuesdays at The Gardens, the free-admission day for Milwaukee County residents, will be offered from May through September, except major holidays. In 2018, the free days are May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, and Sept. 4. To receive free admission, residents must show ID and proof of residency.
May 3rd – Kohl’s Thank You Thursday, Free Admission to the Milwaukee Public Museum :: ALL visitors receive FREE access to the permanent exhibits of MPM on the first Thursday of every month during Kohl’s Thank You Thursday.
May 3rd – Free Admission to Milwaukee Art Muesum :: Admission is free the first Thursday of the month, sponsored by Meijer.
May 3rd – Spring in Europe Bier Dinner at Cafe Hollander :: Join us for an evening of enchantment at Café Hollander Brookfield’s Spring Bier Dinner! Following a welcome bier, we’ll bask in four biers & ciders paired perfectly with a four-course dinner, then say goodnight with a wine toast. There will be goodie bags to take home and a special guest from Ansay International to chat bier with. Bon appétit!
May 3rd – Bedtime Stories at Verlo Mattress :: Verlo Mattress is proud to partner with MPS for a Bedtime Stories event at their Wauwatosa location on May 3 from 5-7 p.m. There will be volunteers, including Kathy Thornton-Bias, the president of Verlo, reading short stories to the school children. Healthy snacks will be provided and good sleep habits will be discussed. Raffle prizes will also be given out.
May 4th-June 3rd – Judy Moody & Stink : The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Treasure Hunt :: Third grade has put Judy Moody in a mood. She’s got to figure out what to include in her “Me” collage, and her know-it-all little brother Stink keeps getting in the way. When the Moody family drops anchor on “Artichoke” Island, they meet Cap’n Weevil with a secret treasure map, launching them on a mad dash across the island in search of gold. But they’re not the only salty dogs lookin’ for loot! Can Judy Moody and Stink outwit their competition in time? Will Judy finish her project? Set sail on this world premiere and find out! Suggested for families with young people ages 5 – 9+
May 5th – Stars on Ice 2018 :: There’s nothing like seeing Stars on Ice in the Olympic season! The best of the U.S. will be coming to you direct from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea to skate together – live in an all-new Stars on Ice show! See America’s top medal contenders including 2017 U.S. Champion Nathan Chen, World Silver Medalist Ashley Wagner, three-time World Medalists Maia & Alex Shibutani, 2017 U.S. Champion Karen Chen, and U.S. Champion Jason Brown, plus Olympic Gold Medalists Meryl Davis & Charlie White and more of America’s finest Olympic athletes in the 2018 Stars on Ice tour!
May 5th – Run for Home 2018 :: This is more than a run/walk, it’s a fun way to contribute to one of the most critical needs in the community. Exploit No More receives multiple calls every week from individuals, healthcare providers, high schools, and law enforcement who are trying to help victims of sex trafficking or prevent this evil from happening. Housing is one of the key needs to help victims. It takes our community to tackle this issue Join us again this year and help Exploit No More continue to move forward in bringing freedom to child trafficking victims!
May 5th-6th – Art in the Green :: This is a two-day, indoor, event showcasing local and regional artists. The artists will have work for sale in our Conservatory Annex with entertainment and food vendors throughout the Domes
May 5th-6th – Girl Scout Discount Days at Old World Wisconsin :: Tour Old World Wisconsin and return to the late 19th century of life on the farm, when waves of immigrants came to America’s heartland in search of a better life. Watch the farmers at work as they use traditional tools to shear our heritage sheep. All registered Girls Scouts (including adult scouts) in uniform or wearing clothing with the Girl Scout emblem are Free.
May 8th – Oak Creek Public Library Family Fun Night :: Come as a family and join our magazine scavenger hunt! Each family will be given magazines to search for words or images from a list of clues. After completing the hunt each family member will receive one small treat. This program is FREE and is geared towards children ages 5-10, but all ages are welcome. Registration not required.
May 9th-12th – Animal Tales : Aseop’s Fables :: For more than two thousand years, we have shared Aesop’s fables with children to teach basic moral principles. Bug in a rug will bring to life some of the most well-known and beloved of these stories. Follow our adventurous animals as they learn about friendship and self-confidence.
May 12th – Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! At Discovery World :: Creeping, crawling, flying, and fantastic! Join Tony “The Bug Whisperer” and his Creepy-Crawly Zoo show as we welcome special guest Dan Capps with one of the most impressive insect collections in North America.
May 13th – Free Admission for Mothers to Milwaukee Public Museum :: MPM offers free admission to Mothers on Mother’s Day.
May 13th – Mother’s Day at Bartolotta Restaurants :: Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s time to start planning where you want to enjoy this special holiday and celebrate mom. May 13th – Mother’s Day Brunch at Old World Wisconsin :: Celebrate Mom this Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13 with a visit to Old World Wisconsin where all Mother’s receive FREE admission for the day! Make that visit extra special for the whole family by reserving your prepaid seats for a delicious brunch buffet inside Old World Wisconsin’s historic 1894 Clausing Barn with menu and food prepared by Chef Stephen Hilgen. May 13th – Mother’s Day at the Gardens :: Mother’s Day is the perfect time to take a stroll through the gardens with the whole family! The Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens will be on hand with FREE kids’ activities, balloon art from Miss Sparkle the Clown, make-and-take gifts for Mom and more. You can also enjoy a delicious Mother’s Day Brunch with Zilli Hospitality Group (brunch not included in FBBG event).
May 13th – Mother’s Day Picnic & Paddle :: Paddle with us to discover and celebrate urban wilderness paddling in Lincoln Park where Lincoln Creek joins the Milwaukee River. AND join us for a Bring-Your-Own, Mother’s Day Picnic. Picnic at noon, Paddle will begin at 1 pm.
May 13th – Mother’s Day Brunch at Hom Fired Grill :: Celebrate the best mom in the world by treating her to brunch at HOM Wood Fired Grill! We will be featuring an unlimited buffet from 11am-3pm and our regular dinner menu from 3pm-9pm. Reservations are highly recommended as we do fill up quickly!

May 26th-27th – The Wilde Subaru Family Kite Festival…A Whale of a Tale :: On Saturday, May 26th, and Sunday May 27th, The Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois and Gift of Wings are presenting the The Wilde Subaru Family Kite Festival, 31 Years in Veterans Park, a Milwaukee County park, on Milwaukee’s lakefront. The event will begin at 10:00 am, through 6:00 pm, (5 pm Sunday) with the GRAND LAUNCH of 600+ kites at NOON!
