January

The new year is upon us!

While you may be making and *hopefully* following through on your resolutions, there are some great happenings around the area that you will want to check out!

Here is a list of events happening in the Milwaukee area in January 2018. Know of an event that we forgot? Leave it in the comments and we will be sure to add it to the list. 


January 1st – 31st Annual “Cool Fool Kite Festival” :: This 31 year Milwaukee tradition will take place in Veterans Park, on Milwaukee’s usually warm and windy lakefront. The kite festival is free to the public and will start at 11:00 am just prior to the Polar Bear’s jump into Lake Michigan, and will run until we can no longer stand the cold, probably around 5:00 PM. Kites and hot food are available for purchase or bring your own. FREE Hot chocolate, coffee, and snacks will be served while it lasts, compliments of Gift of Wings. A professional ice carving group called THE QUIET ICE CARVERS will also be on hand, carving some great designs.

January 1stNew Years Day Brunch at The Pfister Hotel :: Celebrate the New Year with friends and family in The Pfister Hotel’s gracious, elegantly appointed ballroom. Guests can enjoy a spectacular spread of chef-prepared classics and savor a mimosa or Bloody Mary.

January 1stNew Years Day Brunch at Milwaukee Hilton :: The Hilton Milwaukee City Center’s Hilton Cafe welcomes both early risers and late sleepers with special New Year’s Day à la carte offerings. Make your first meals of 2018 memorable at one of Milwaukee’s historic downtown hotels. More information available here; no reservations are needed. 

January 11thThe Pfister Book Club ::  Nicole Mattke, the current Pfister Narrator, hosts a modern-day book club in the historic Pfister Hotel. Set in the Rouge Ballroom, this monthly book club features non-stuffy literary discussion of current page turners and a book-themed dessert created by Travis Martinez, the Pfister Hotel’s executive pastry chef. Wine, beer, soda, and coffee will also be available. Bring a friend and enjoy the beauty of the hotel, an evening downtown, and an engaging discussion. The chosen book this month is: Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney.

January 11th – BREWtanicals meet-the-brewer with Bavarian Bierhaus :: Discover area breweries, meet the brewers, learn about their history & process, and taste their beers in this fun monthly series from the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens!

January 12thCouples Night Out :: Grab a friend, neighbor or your sweetheart and have a great night out on the potter’s wheel. Couples night out is one night per month on a Friday. It makes a great gift too. 

January 13thGoldfish Swim School Grand Opening :: Come and celebrate with us for our Grand Opening party! We’ll be opening up our pool for a family swim and have refreshments, balloon twisting, face painting, arts and crafts, a photo booth, and much much more! This event is FREE and open to the public!

January 20thThe Cat in the Hat :: Join First Stage for an interactive storytelling workshop, providing adults and children the opportunity to participate in dramatic activities inspired by First Stage’s musical, Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat.

January 21stWinterfest at Boerner Botantical Garden :: The Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens invite you to conquer your cabin fever with winter nature walks, indoor & outdoor games & activities, hot drinks and FREE family fun!

January 24thCraft Brew Comedy :: An all new monthly comedy showcase on Milwaukee’s East Side! Presented by Good City Brewing and Milwaukee Comedy, this show will present the finest in local and reginal comedy acts. Check out hilarious stand up comedy and delicious craft beer with Craft Brew Comedy!

January 28thBrewers On Deck 2018 :: It’s just you and the Crew — hanging out, swapping stories, playing games, and most likely, becoming best friends. Join the Brewers for their annual Winter Fan Fest and get your fix of Brewers Baseball in January by spending the day with all of your favorite players, coaches, alumni, front office personnel and broadcasters.

January 27-28thre:Craft and Relic :: Come join thousands of Etsy-loving, Pinterest-obsessed, DIY enthusiasts and find vintage and antique treasures large and small, architectural salvage, vintage-inspired jewelry, re-purposed and upcycled gifts and decor, and beautiful, handmade clothing and accessories.

Ongoing Events: 

November 17- January 8th – A Grand Avenue Christmas :: Enjoy elaborately decorated trees, festooned fireplaces, and twinkling lights as you stroll through three floors of extravagantly decorated rooms.  Each year brings new and wonderful decorations and a chance for you to create an annual tradition at the Pabst Mansion.

February 25, 2017 – January 20th, 2018 Milwaukee’s Pizza Bus Tour :: Celebrate PIZZA with Milwaukee’s bus-driven Pizza Tour! Join us as we sample the quintessential thin crust pizza, grab gourmet slices of tomato goodness, and search for the most historic pies in town.

November 18 – January 29thDeck the Streets of Old Milwaukee :: Experience the Streets of Old Milwaukee like never before, as the turn-of-the-century exhibit transforms into a holiday wonderland. Peek into some of your favorite storefronts adorned in traditional seasonal flair and parade past exterior façades garnished with decorations of the Victorian-era.

December 9 – April 28th Brown Deer Winter Market :: Come to the Brown Deer Farmers Market to find unique locally made items. Free Admission. 

Ongoing Toddler Time at Bounce Milwaukee :: From 10am – 2pm each Monday and Wednesday, we reserve some of our attractions for the use of our youngest guests (ages 1-5 and their families)! In addition to our regular, kid-friendly free time, we’ll offer age-appropriate small group games led by our amazing hosts, including parachutes and “Rody-O” in our inflatable sports arena. We also offer specially-themed crafts and additional activities, all included in the discounted $9 Bounce admission!
