Two Is Enough:: How I Knew My Family Was Complete

“So when are you going to try for another?”

I get this question weekly, if not more. You see, I have two boys, two-and-a-half and one. I have found that a lot of people assume that I not only want but NEED to try for another, secretly hoping I will have a girl. But here is the thing, my two boys are just that- MY two boys, and with them, our little family is complete. My sons are amazing and, although the past year hasn’t always been easy, I am so happy we have each other. They are already two peas in a pod and, at times, two partners in crime. Seeing them engage with each other makes me realize that our family is perfect just the way it is.

While others may want a big family, my husband and I have always wanted two. We joke about how we are never outnumbered (although at times it definitely feels like it). No zone defense necessary here! I love that I can carry a kiddo in each arm. I love that I can snuggle up with a tot on each side and read a book or watch an episode of Daniel Tiger for the thousandth time. My two kids complete our family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Having two kids nineteen months apart was no picnic for me. Manning a young tot and a baby is definitely not one of my strengths. Now that we have moved past the baby phase, I am slowly coming out of survival mode and learning to love parenting again. I also realized that I am just not a baby person. Don’t get me wrong, I love my children, but babies are just hard for me. As my sons get older I get more and more excited to parent. The conversations, flexibility with schedules, jokes, and extra hugs and kisses are giving me all the mom feels in the best of ways.

Finally, the most common question, “But don’t you want the girl?” This one honestly irks me the most. I have two amazing, healthy, successful kiddos. They are loving, goofy, and FULL of personality. I love being their mom. The gender of our children is one thing in life that we don’t choose, and I am 100% okay with that.

My sons are just that: my sons. They are amazing little people who continue to challenge me every day and I couldn’t imagine a world without them. They love their babies just as much as their trucks, and Doc Mcstuffins carries just as much weight as Daniel does in this house. Just because I have two sons does not mean that my house is not full of love, snuggles, compassion, and caring.

What we are lacking in tutus we are making up for in love, and I am more than okay with that because honestly, does anyone like washing tutus?

My family makes one incredible foursome! Our team is perfectly complete and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

How did you know that your family was complete and, if you don’t quite know, what things are you considering in your decision?
