August Spotlights: 

August 1st-5th – WI Sales Tax Holiday :: Sales of certain items are exempt during a five-day period in August 2018. The temporary exemption period, referred to as a sales tax holiday, will begin on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, and continue through Sunday, August 5, 2018.

August 16th-19th 2018 Milwaukee Irish Fest :: Milwaukee Irish Fest is the world’s largest celebration of Celtic music and culture. The four-day festival showcases more than 100 entertainment acts on 17 stages at Henry W. Maier Festival Park on Milwaukee’s lakefront. More than a festival, Milwaukee Irish Fest, through its parent organization CelticMKE, is passionately committed to igniting a love of Irish culture in all people. With the help of more than 4,000 volunteers, CelticMKE teaches Ireland’s music, dance, drama, sports, culture, children’s activities and genealogy through year-round programming. Families will find themselves exclaiming “Sláinte” in no time!

August 1st Kidz Days at The Center – Ballet Folklorico Nacional :: KidZ Days At the Center is a free family program held Tuesdays through Thursdays throughout the summer months. As part of the Marcus Center’s community and educational arts programming, KidZ Days at the Center showcases a variety of performing arts presented by local Milwaukee Groups. This interactive program serves to entertain and educate.

August 1st Sunset Zoofari :: Sunset Zoofari now gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy music from popular Milwaukee bands, animated movies that the whole family will enjoy, and favorite animals prehistoric or present.

August 1stCanoeing for Beginners : The Washington Park Lagoon is a beautiful, calm and spacious body of water – a great place to learn the basics of paddling! Learn how to choose the right equipment, boating safety and paddling technique, then practice with guidance from one of our trained educators. Perfect for those who are new to paddling or just want some more practice.

August 2nd – Wimmer Communities’ Concerts in the Garden ::  Performances occur every Thursday throughout the summer beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at approximately 8:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted.  Admission to The Boerner Botanical Gardens to attend the summer concerts is free after 6:00 p.m. and attendees are welcome to walk through the gardens.

August 2ndJazz In The Park :: Jazz in the Park is Milwaukee’s favorite free, outdoor, summer music series, featuring everything from Jazz and big band to R&B, Funk and Salsa. Warm Summer nights and live, outdoor music go hand in hand. But when it’s set on a unique stage surrounded by urban scenery, you get a listening experience like no other.

August 2nd  – Kohl’s Thank You Thursday, Free Admission to the Milwaukee Public Museum :: ALL visitors receive FREE access to the permanent exhibits of MPM on the first Thursday of every month during Kohl’s Thank You Thursday.

August 2nd – Free Admission to Milwaukee Art Museum :: Admission is free the first Thursday of the month, sponsored by Meijer.

August 2nd Best of Broadway at The Mayfair Collection :: A concert celebration at The Mayfair Collection featuring shows such as Les Miserables, Into The Woods, Disney’s Beauty And The Beast and many more! This exciting evening of dynamic music takes you on a journey of musical theatre classics, current Broadway hits and popular chart-toppers that will have you and your family humming and singing along!

August 2nd-3rd Lady Parts Justice League ::  LPJL’s second annual #VagicalMysteryTour will make you laugh, dance, and learn how to fight for reproductive rights! This show will not only present some of the most hilarious and sought after comedians in the business, but will include an informal post-show talkback with abortion providers and activists, who will break down what’s at stake for abortion rights in your state, and offer tangible ways for you to roll up your sleeves and fight back.

August 2nd-12th Wisconsin State Fair :: A visit to the Wisconsin State Fair is an annual summer tradition for families and friends alike. August 3rd Floating Lantern Celebration at Urban Island Beach Party :: Join the Friends of Lakeshore State Park in a special Floating Lantern Celebration. At dusk, guests are invited to light and launch a floating lantern into the lagoon along with a wish that suits their desires. Urban Island Beach Party is free and open to the public for attendees and lantern spectators. To participate in the lantern celebration, pre-purchase your lantern when registering for $20. All proceeds of the celebration support the Friends of Lakeshore State Park.

August 3rd – The Little Prince, A Children’s Opera :: Experience Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved and classic children’s book in this operatic, concert adaptation. Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman offers an imaginative re-telling in a melodious and magical musical style. Featuring local Milwaukee talents, you won’t want to miss this special, one-night-only event! Sung in English; run-time is approximately 75 minutes. Perfect for all ages – children encouraged to attend! Free and open to the public.

August 3rd Movie in the Park :: Enjoy “Barefoot in the Park” outdoors at Lake Park, sponsored by Duvall Group Real Estate and Bruce Murphy of Fairway Mortgage. The event is free and there will be popcorn! The movie starts at dusk, around 8:30 p.m. Hosted by Lake Park Friends.

August 3rd Friday Fishing Club :: Come catch the big one on the south side! Guided fishing lessons for kids and families are available from our DNR Angler Educator. All equipment is provided! Fishing licenses required for ages 16 and up.

August 3rd Live @ The Mayfair Collection :: Bring your chairs and blankets, and come enjoy great local music every Friday night this summer at the LIVE at The Mayfair Collection Concert Series! Presented Synergy luxury apartments and Meoimi Coastal California Wines, the concerts are free to the public and will feature a different local artist / musician every week. Guests can enjoy the music out on the lawn in the plaza with beer, wine, and cocktails available for purchase from Taqueria El Jefe’s new outdoor bar!

August 4thOutdoor Yoga at The Mayfair Collection :: Elite Sport Clubs is partnering with The Mayfair Collection to host weekly outdoor yoga classes with Yoga master instructor Tom Feest.  Every Saturday morning, Tom will teach a one-hour class in the Vinyasa / Power Flow Yoga method live in the plaza at The Mayfair Collection. Classes will begin at 8:30am every Saturday morning from through August 25th.

August 4th Wisconsin IPA Fest :: Sample IPAs from breweries across the whole state of Wisconsin in one afternoon at Third Space Brewing in Milwaukee. Help us crown Wisconsin’s best IPA and taste delicious hoppy beers that aren’t typically available in the Milwaukee area.

August 4th Annual Third Ward Sidewalk Sale :: Stroll the historic streets, shop the neighborhood boutiques, and enjoy the culinary treats! For one amazing weekend, enjoy sales throughout the neighborhood.

August 4th-5th – Firefly Art Fair :: Over 90 juried artists participate in the annual Firefly Art Fair held in the Kneeland-Walker Victorian Gardens during the first full weekend of August. A historic exhibit inside the house adds a touch of the past to the event.

August 7th – First Tuesdays – Free Entry to Milwaukee County residents to Boerner Botanical Gardens :: First Tuesdays at The Gardens, the free-admission day for Milwaukee County residents, will be offered from May through September, except major holidays. In 2018, the free days are May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, and Sept. 4. To receive free admission, residents must show ID and proof of residency.

August 8thTosa Tonight Free Summer Concert :: Join your neighbors for evenings of fantastic music under the stars, featuring local, national, and international talent. Your food and beverage purchases from our local sponsors help raise money for the ongoing non-profit operation of the Rotary Performance Pavilion – home of the Tosa Tonight Summer Concert Series. Music starts at 6:00pm – Concerts are held rain or shine, but may be cancelled due to lightning or severe weather.

August 8th JDRF Fundraiser at Cafe Hollander :: Did you know 1.25 million people in the U.S. suffer from Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)? Join us on August 8th at the Corners as we support JDRF’s mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. All day on August 8th at Café Hollander Brookfield, 10 percent of all purchases from your party’s table will go toward benefiting the JDRF. August 8th Rainbow Scavenger Hunt :: Learn your colors as you walk through Lakeshore! Find a plant or animal for each color, draw a sketch, and learn what they are called. Free. All Ages (content geared toward 3-10 years old, but all are welcome!)

August 10th Kids Fishing Friday :: DNR staff will be on hand with equipment to help your child learn to fish! Park staff will supply poles and bait for up to 20 children as we fish for panfish. Children younger than 16 do not require a fishing license. Free. All Ages.

August 10th-12thGreendale Village Days :: Village Days takes place Friday August 10th – Sunday August 12th in Downtown Greendale.  There are two entertainment stages, one hosted by the Greendale Entertainment Association in the Municipal Parking lot and the other by the Greendale Lions Club in Gazebo Park.  Beyond music there are food vendors, beer, a family entertainment area and a parade on Sunday at noon!

August 11thMilwaukee Dragon Boat Race :: Milwaukee teams compete in a boat race using traditional Chinese Dragon Boats. In addition to the race there will be a festival which is free to the public. Throughout the festival, there will be performances in traditional dance, Chinese folk music, and Martial Arts. There will be hands-on opportunities for the young and young-at-heart to make opera masks and lanterns, play traditional games, participate in a dragon parade, and even learning to speak and write Chinese. There will also be food vendors and a marketplace.

August 11th Milwaukee Dragon Boat Festival :: Milwaukee Dragon Boat Festival will be held at Lake Shore State Park at the lake front, Saturday, August 11,2018, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The event showcases Chinese culture and tradition with dragon-boat racing as the main attraction. Free event, great for all ages.  Dragon boat racing will begin at 8 a.m. There are over 50 teams will participate.  With vibrantly colored dragon heads and tails, the 43-foot-long boats are sometimes referred to as “canoes on steroids.” Teams of up to 21 men and women will row their boat in unison to the beat of their drummer.  This event will also feature Chinese culture including the Lion Dance, cultural exhibits, traditional dance performance, Chinese folk music, and martial arts. Authentic Chinese food will be available for purchase.

August 11thBeach Day :: Live surf music, Fresh-grilled beach food, Beach reading mini-booksale ,Ukulele lessons, Raffles, Family fun & games. Enter a free raffle for a Kindle! August 12thGlendale Chalk Art Festival :: Enjoy food, drink, music, and other family-friendly activities while seeing art by nationally known chalk artists and works produced by local and student artists.

August 14thOconomowoc Kids Fest :: Bring your family to Oconomowoc Kids Fest. Local organizations will be set up in Oconomowoc’s Roosevelt Park to offer free information for your family and the community. Enjoy games, entertainment, music, inflatables, arts & crafts, food, and more.

August 15thTosa Tonight Free Summer Concert :: Join your neighbors for evenings of fantastic music under the stars, featuring local, national, and international talent. August 15th-19th Venetian Festival :: The five-day celebration take place at Flat Iron, Library and Seminary Parks in picturesque downtown Lake Geneva. Venetian Festival features a weekend of great family entertainment including a Craft Fair, Carnival, Water Ski Show, local cuisine including a brat stand and beer tent. This is all capped off on Sunday with a traditional Venetian Style Boat Parade followed by the area’s largest fireworks display high above Geneva Lake.

August 18th India Fest :: IndiaFest Milwaukee has become a tradition. For the past 5 years, Spindle India, Inc., is bringing communities together beyond borders, boundaries, languages, region and religion; celebrating ‘India’ in a grand fashion in Wisconsin, in the month of August; observing Independence day of India, bringing essence of India to the community, for education, collaboration and cultural immersion.

Join Tony “The Bug Whisperer” and his Creepy-Crawly Zoo show just how cool the world of entomology really is. This show is perfect for young children as they’ll learn about the insects in our backyard, participate in Tony’s fun presentation, and experience bugs like never before!

August 18th Free Summer Nights Movie :: Gift of Wings is excited to show “The Lion King” on Saturday August 18th in Milwaukee’s Veteran’s Park. Bring your blankets and chairs and find a great spot. Gift of Wings will have food, ice cream and drink for sale. Popcorn is only $1.00!

August 22ndCarnival at The Shell :: What can go wrong when New South Rampart Street Paraders from the neighborhood are paired with Extra Crispy Brass Band and Dead Man’s Carnival are in the house doing crazy tricks? It’s going to be the best carnival yet! We’re adding to this bill as we speak. Circus acts, caricature art, tarot reading, jugglers! Oh My! Food trucks, Vernacular Beer and MCFI will be present to help feed kids in the neighborhood who are hungry. A play area hosted by Artists Working in Education will be back on the east side of the park to entertain kids while you enjoy the performances.

August 24th Hawaiian Luau :: Free Food and Games! Fun for your whole Family! KinderCare located at 125 E Sunset Drive in Waukesha is hosting a Hawaiian Luau on Friday, August 24, from 4 – 6 PM!  Join us for Hawaiian themed BBQ treats and fun games for all ages!  There is no cost for this event.

August 24th-26th Mexican Fiesta :: Mexican Fiesta celebrates the sound, culture and taste of Mexico and other Latin American countries each year with three days of fun, food, Mariachi and Fiesta for everyone. Mexican Fiesta is more than just a celebration; it is a vigorous declaration of community spirit at its best, concentrating on providing education and cultural events for the growing Hispanic community.

August 25thOutdoor Yoga at The Mayfair Collection :: Elite Sport Clubs is partnering with The Mayfair Collection to host weekly outdoor yoga classes with Yoga master instructor Tom Feest.  Every Saturday morning, Tom will teach a one-hour class in the Vinyasa / Power Flow Yoga method live in the plaza at The Mayfair Collection. Classes will begin at 8:30am every Saturday morning from through August 25th.

August 25th Free Summer Movie Nights Movie :: Gift of Wings is excited to show Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time” on Saturday night August 25th in Milwaukee’s Veteran’s Park. Bring your blankets and chairs and find a great spot. Gift of Wings will have food, ice cream and drink for sale. Popcorn is only $1.00!

August 25th Summer Delight Dinner Train on East Troy Railroad :: There is nothing like the romance and luxury of dining aboard first-class railroad cars the way people did a generation ago. August 29th – Tosa Tonight Free Summer Concert :: Join your neighbors for evenings of fantastic music under the stars, featuring local, national, and international talent. Your food and beverage purchases from our local sponsors help raise money for the ongoing non-profit operation of the Rotary Performance Pavilion – home of the Tosa Tonight Summer Concert Series. Music starts at 6:00pm – Concerts are held rain or shine, but may be cancelled due to lightning or severe weather.

August 30th – Wimmer Communities’ Concerts in the Garden ::  Performances occur every Thursday throughout the summer beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at approximately 8:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted.  Admission to The Boerner Botanical Gardens to attend the summer concerts is free after 6:00 p.m. and attendees are welcome to walk through the gardens.

August 30thJazz In The Park :: Jazz in the Park is Milwaukee’s favorite free, outdoor, summer music series, featuring everything from Jazz and big band to R&B, Funk and Salsa. Warm Summer nights and live, outdoor music go hand in hand. But when it’s set on a unique stage surrounded by urban scenery, you get a listening experience like no other.

August 29th- September 2nd 115th Anniversary at the Harley Museum :: Visit the 115th Central Rally Point where H-D history and custom culture comes to life.
